FRU Development team not only celebrated International Sports Day for Development and Peace with the inmates at the Suva Women Corrections but kicked-off a program that hopes to change lives behind prison wall.

Rugby is a national sport that unites, build bridges bring joy to many and is a force for physical wellbeing and social empowerment. It is the best platform to nurture the values that we all share; Discipline, Respect, Integrity, Passion and Solidarity. It includes everyone despite your size, race, age and limitations and strengthens peace and a healthy society. The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) is an annual celebration of the power of sport to drive social change, community development and to foster peace and understanding. This year, the Women’s development at Fiji Rugby Union aims to give as many people as possible access to rugby and at the same time promote women’s rugby at community level.

On the same day, Nadi primary School organized a Get Into Rugby Festival for the Indo Fijian kids in the area. Five schools took part, Sabeto Sangam, Sabeto Muslim, Sabeto Central, Votualevu Primary and Arya Samaj. These five schools have been running GIR for the last ten (10) weeks building up to the Festival. The tournament aims to increase participation and also address the issue that Rugby is for everyone despite your race, color or beliefs.
